Dedicated Server Rental Company?
#1
Hey Everyone,

I’ve gotten to the point now where I am renting multiple css servers and it would almost make sense for me to have my own dedicated server. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good place to rent a dedicated server, ideally in the Chicago area. Also, it would be great if someone could tell me the hardware i would need to run the following;

Two 24 slot public servers @ 66tick
One 10 slot private server @ 100tick

I'm looking to hear from some people who have personal experience with companies. I checked out the commercial section, seems to be more game server companies then dedicated server places. Also, it doesn’t really contain any recommendations, just people advertising their own company (in which case of course they would say it’s good hah).

Thanks! Smile

P.S. Admins/Moderators, if this isn’t a topic you wish to see in here, my apologies, just lock it up...maybe people could pm instead? I’m not trying to get people to advertise in here, I just really have no idea where to rent from.

I should be able to get you one. You probably don't need anything better than an Opteron 170 Dual Core and 1GB of RAM. It can probably handle more than that... the one listed on my site needs setup, but I can waive that too Toungue PM me if you like, because I don't want to be mistaken for advertising here. I just wanna help, and I haven't even posted in the commercial pit.

remember "unmanaged" means no game control panel, no one doing os kernel upgrades/patches etc. you have to path and install games on your own.

Heheh yea, it's going to be quite a learning process, but I think im up for the challange. Im assuming a windows box would be the easiest to keep secure and up to date eh? I just wish I could figure out what I need to rent for a box. I really dont want to rent something that is over kill. I see all kind of great deals like;

Intel P4 3,0Ghz HT processor
250GB IDE hard drive
1GB RAM
1500GB traffic
Remote reboot port included
Level 1 Administration

Only $99USD / month
$0* Setup

However I dont know what this could handle for a load.

hard to say, some people say srcds runs better on windows some say it's better on linux, note that for windows you have to pay an additional licensing fee per month in most cases so take that into account.

if you can wait a bit, hang out in the dedicated/colo section of webhostingtalk.com there are always specials at the end of the month. layered was doing double the ram for free for a while (ram is always good) and/or extra bandwidth.
