In the end, kernel building is the same way, unless you use Gentoo's genkernel, but the it be pointless because i belive it still does 100Hz for your kernel frequency timer, and it also bloats your kernel to like 5MB by adding things you don't need. (its not perfect but its good for noobs)

Like i said though, if you couldn't handle slackware with its handy installer, i doubt you'd fair well with gentoo's DIY technique of installing.

However, if you can follow the documentation to the fullest, you'll in the end, become more of a novice in linux and know a bit more than other newbies to linux who use installer based linux distros.

I have tryed 6 different compile guides and screwed up 9 installations. I followed steps perfectly, everything worked perfect no errors but each time i restart the same stupid thing happens. I think its some sort of hardware problem, maby somthing to do with the fact thats its a laptop.

edit: what is the chance that init is set to 6?

edit: and i cant find my bloody linux live cd
