Can I get cs:s to run on gentoo?
#1
Question
Hey,

I know this isn't about servers, but I wanna know; because I am SICK of windows, I want to know if there is any free way to gt cs:s to run on gentoo, or some other linux distribution. I have heard of wine and wineX but they say it doesn't support directX 9.0 So I'm wondering, do you guys have source on your linux ddistributions? If so, how the hell did you do it?

You mean the client version to play with?

First of all you surely know that debian oder gentoo are free distributions!

Then you should head over to http://www.transgaming.com/ where you find a tool named "Cedega".

Okay it costs money, monthly! But with it you can even play Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike:Source on linux machines!

greetz, damarges

edit: erhm, i never tested it myself this way but it should go

I have a gentoo box, but its high class hardware(dual xeon 3GHz with em64t and HT[thus making it a quad xeon] 2GB DDR400 and a pci-e 6800GT OC) and cedega runs fine using the CVS version which is free, but VERY unstable. But im happy knowning that games like warcraft run faster than native.

Hmmmm, well since you wanna duel computer specs, you win, but I want you to see my lovely cheap computer.

AMD 64 2800 (Not OC'd)
755 not 933
ATi 9550SE (shitty edition) 128
1G PC3200 RAM
80G western digital
10G soemthing liek a maxtor....it has gentoo on it tho, but I have a problem! I get to the part in the installation where you type in:
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
IT WONT WORK!!! IT SAYS IT'S GOT AN ERROR IN THE FORMAT!! (Not syntax)
