ya you need gdb installed for debugs and you don't need to declare the file *.log in the commandline

I have the same error, I fix it with linux_base-8-8.0_5.

Isn't that an emulator? I would like to run the server from straight linux if possible. Never really heard of linux_base-8-8.0_5.

linux_base i believe is for *BSD operating systems, install gdb and you should be able to use the debug switch

I have gdb but am not getting any log. Here is the line I am using.

./srcds_run -debug srcds.log -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust +port 27016 -steamuser xxx -steampass xxx -log on

try using -debuglog

Yes it's for *BSD , I'm using Freebsd 5.3 and after I have make portinstall linux_base-8-8.0_5, my game is running well
