SRCDS Steam group

problems with the new update
#1
When I enter this command: ./steam -command update -dir . -game "Counter-Strike Source" -username user -password pass

I get this (when I am logged on as the user that is in the same group as the hlds):

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 12 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Downloading. . . . . . . . . . .
Cannot open output file 'LinuxHldsUpdateTool_12.pkg'

or as root:

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Use:

Create a Steam Account:
-create <username> <password> <question> <answer>

Install or update HLDS:
-update <game> <installdir> <username> [<password> [Y]]
Y => remember password

View installed versions:
-version

So I tried that command: ./steam -update "Counter-Strike Source" . user pass

As non-root, I got this (the same thing):

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 12 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Downloading. . . . . . . . . . .
Cannot open output file 'LinuxHldsUpdateTool_12.pkg'

As root, I got this:

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Login failed. This account does not exist, or the password is incorrect.

The username and password are correct, and I am not logged into Steam anywhere else. Is anyone else having this problem or know what to do about it?

Thanks.

have you tried to create a new user then updating from there? I just ran ./steam -command update 5 seconds ago and im having no problem with it, is this a first time install on that server?

Try

cd .steam/
rm -rf ClientRegistry.blob

then update

Where is .steam/ located? I haven't been able to find it.

Okay, I figured it out. I didn't realize it was in root's home directory. I was looking around in my steam install dir and about everywhere BUT the home... Thanks so much for the help though, it works!

Don't install the dedicated server as root, otherwiser you'll have to run the server as root, and that would be a slap on the hand!
