so no matter what i did even if it was just those ports open, instead of the dmz thing, then i have the same risk? also, if i do do the DMZ what software/program should i use to help "protect" my computer?

It's not really a risk. I should have stated this differently before. your at risk if your computer is connected to the internet period. For protection you can DMZ the server IP, then run a firewall with only the SRCDS ports open. I think thats about the best you can do.

go to download.com and search the word firewall. about a billion different firewalls u can download will show. download it, run it, then add all the ports you want opened. That should be about it, I wish i could provide more info, but i do not run any firewalls.

once i start the server, how do i find out what the server ip is that everyone else can see?

ALSO: Anyone know how to do those ports for norton anti virus?

If you know what a DHCP server is you can find the server IP in there. Or u can start the server and type in status or stats, one of the two will print ur ip along with some other info.

when i type status it gives me the ip that only i can use, what about the public one?

you dont use your external IP for forwarding or DMZ. It's your internal IP u need, the one u use to connect to the server with.

That is known as your as internal IP address (ipconfig in run). To get your external ip go to whatsmyip.org or portforward.com, they both state your external ip on the main page.

is the external ip what everyone else connects to to join my counter-strike server?

EDIT: i try to do something like change the map from the dedicated server window and i get this:

unable to connect to remote server

EDIT: Is there a program i could download to make these ports avalable?
