-pidfile switch

I talked to SirTiger about this but he didn't seem to know as he doesn't have a CS:S box to test, however, does -pidfile work for anyone?

Code:

-pidfile srcds.pid

for example.

Though it won't work on my box.

Maybe steam has an update, i'll check after i build my box specifically for nocona Xeons

-pidfile was added to the latest update of the source engine.

He means has anybody else tried the -pidfile that was enabled in the newest release.

I'm not really sure what it does so I can't help you out.

-pidfile scrds.pid returns -pidfile scrds.pid -steam -defaultgamesdir hl2 for me

adding -pidfile srcds.pid adds the process ID number to srcds.pid, Using it so i can renice it every 5 minutes to gain performance to the dedicated server running.

What are about for more than one process per box? Renicing could get tricky.

if there was goign to be more than 1 process per box it would be in each users homedir

Ok, i rebuilt my server and tried it out, heres whats goin on

and it seems to create a file called

if anyone wants to use the -pidfile i found this patch on the steampowered forums as a temp solution until valve fixes this http://www.machgaming.net/srcds_run.patch.gz
