Server Not Starting Correctly?
#1
Greetings folks,

I am looking to host a The Ship dedicated server for a small group of friends, but I'm running into a few issues.

I was able to install it without any problems but it seems the server hangs or doesn't start up correctly when I enter the command.

I've tried searching around the internet and these forums, but no luck. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

1) Show your command line:

theship$ sudo ./srcds_run -console -game ship -port 27015 +ip 192.168.1.115 -maxplayers 12 -debug
Auto detecting CPU
Using SSE2 Optimized binary.
Enabling debug mode
Auto-restarting the server on crash

Console initialized.
Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
Game.dll loaded for "TheShip"
CSoundEmitterSystem::AddSoundsFromFile: No such file scripts/game_sounds_single_player.txt
CSoundEmitterSystem::AddSoundsFromFile: No such file scripts/game_sounds_vo_tutorial.txt
maxplayers set to 12
Unknown command "startupmenu"
Network: IP 192.168.1.115, mode MP, dedicated Yes, ports 27015 SV /270005 CL

2) Please include debug.log:

The debug.log doesn't show any crashes or anything, remains as an empty file.

3) What distro are you running?

Ubuntu Server 12.04

4) What's your ggc version?

gcc (Ubutnu/Linaro 4.7.2-2ubuntu1) 4.7.2

5) What version of glibc are you running?

ldd (Ubuntu EGLIBC 2.15-0ubuntu20.2) 2.15

6) What kernel version are you running?

Linux Gaming 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:31:23 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

7) What hard ware are you using?

Dell PowerEdge 1950
2xQuad-Core Xeon 5405 2.0Ghz 16GB DDR2

It's at this point where it seems to hang and nothing else happens. Any ideas or tips I can try?

First of all: never run a server as superuser! Never, never, never!

As to your problem: I went through this same thing late last year. The answer is... well, you're not going to like it.

It seems that the server code does not respect case/capitalization in the file names that it tries to load. As a result it cannot find most of its assets and hangs/crashes. I posted about this on the Blazing Griffin forums some time ago, but this is obviously not a high priority for them.
