FRIENDS CANT JOIN MY GAME PLS HELP
#1
Hi, please help me.

Ive spend 8 hours trying to get my cs source server up and it wont work.

Here were my steps

get hlsupdatetool in folder SRCDS, etc. Do the source download thing in the cmd control panel, all goes swell, I get like a 1gig folder named SRCDS, with SRCDS.exe in it. I create a shortcut to desktop. I painstakingly port forward these in my router

UDP 1200 (Friends Network)
UDP 27000 to 27020 (Gameport)
TCP 27030 to 27050
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

I launch it, it all goes well the cmd box is up, connection to steam servers successful it says...blah blah.. great. The thing is it comes up on my lan and when I add it as favorites, but my friends cant get it. How do I fix this?

Here is my target in SRCDS shortcut

C:\SRCDS\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -secure +ip 192.168.1.12 -port 27015 +maxplayers 20 +map de_dust -autoupdate

I had +ip to the ip i was told in whatsmyip.com, but then I got inaccessibile UDP port error, so I found an answer in these forums and changed it to me internal ip or whatever, which was 192.168.1.12.

Please help!! my friends cant join

chances are you messed up in the port forwarding.

dont take it from me im a noob at running a server but what i did to make it work was just shut down the router firewall all together and run a powerfull firewall on my computer which i can controll better.

This is probably not good advice but itll probably make ur server work while u wait for sum1 else to awnser

also dont forget to have a firewall running on your computer if your router isnt running one.

you should always have a firewall on your computer, even if your router does have one.. router firewalls i have found aren't all the effective Toungue

anyways though, it does sound like you don't have your ports forwared correctly. and on a short note, the only ports that need to be forwarded are the server port (default 27015) in tcp and udp. that just saves some setup time Big Grin.. and your giving your friends the ip thats at http://www.whatsmyip.org because you being on the same lan will have to connect to the lan ip, but anyone else will have to connect to the external ip.

Steam Forums Wrote:Firewall/Router Settings
If you can't see your server in the list or your friends are not able to connect to your server then this could have many causes. One of them is that you're behind a firewall or a router.
If your server is behind a firewall and/or you are using a router, you need to open/forward these ports:

UDP 1200 (Friends Network)
UDP 27000 to 27015 (Gameport)
UDP 27020
TCP 27030 to 27039
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Go to the website of your manufacturer if you don't know how to open/forward these ports. Or if you have a router you can go to this website: http://www.portforward.com/
