Making me admin in mani(resolved)
#1
ok i downloaded the necessary files in mani and put them where the supposedly go. now im supposed to put me as admin in adminlist.txt but its all examples wheres the accual spot where i put me as admin. and do i put my account name or ip? plz help thx in advance

HERES MY ADMIN LIST:

//
// If you want to have an Admin created by both steam ID and IP address you
// use the format STEAM_ID;IP_ADDRESS flags
//
// Example
//
// STEAM_0:1:877489;231.192.67.5 rp // Admin can't rcon and play sound !!
//
// IMPORTANT NOTES !!!!
//
// If you only use an IP Address, the character ';' MUST be directly in
// front of it.
//
// There must be a space between the steam ID/IP Address and restriction flags
// or the plug-in will assume that it is part of the Steam ID/IP Address
//
// Another alternative to using a steam id is a name and password
//
// The format of this is ;;"name";password flags
//
// For example I would use
//
// ;;"Mani";maniadminplugin rp // Admin can't rcon or playsound
//
// In order to use the password, put
//
// setinfo _password mypassword
//
// in your config.cfg file in your client installation.
//

your put your steam id at the very bottom of the adminlist.txt.. so it would be something like
Code:
//blah blah
//bottom of the adminlist file
//whatever else is down here, i don't know
//then after the very bottom "//" add your steam id
//
STEAM_x:x:xxxxxxx

something like that.. lol

you can mak your self an admin, just find your ip and put it in after a semicolon, you dont need a steam id.

As skeletor said, you need to add put your Steam ID in there. I would not set it up based on IP if you're on a residential internet connection, since your IP likely changes very often.

You can find your SteamID in-game by going to the console and typing "status" and it should list all the active players' Steam ID's. Just scroll down to your name/ID and copy it, then paste it into adminlist.txt. There's probably an easier way to find your SteamID, but I don't know of it Smile

No, trust me, you do not need your steam id in there. I'm an admin on mine and all i have is:
;192.168.2.2

If the server is run on your home network, which yours appears to be, it'll work fine.

If the server is run at a remote location, where you have to access it via the internet, that's when you'll run into the "ip changing" problem.

in that case you can use your external ip

punchthemonkey94, as I said before, if you're on a residential broadband connection, your connection will likely be DHCP (cable and some DSL providers) or PPPoE (mostly DSL providers).

The whole point of each protocol is to free up IP's when they are not in use and allowing someone else to use them. Often, when renewing the lease on the IP, your IP will change. On your LAN, you can set your IP staticly and it will not change and setting up mani to auth by IP would be a decent option.

Unless you share your Steam account with someone else, I don't see a problem with setting it up to authenticate based on SteamID. That way you do not have to change your adminlist.txt everytime your IP changes.

If the adminlist supports wildcards (ex: 1.2.3.*, where the last octet could be anything) my opinion would change.

You are correct, you can set it up by external, or internal, IP, but I don't think it's the best option.

Just my two cents.

lol, yes and regardless its very easy to "mask" an ip, and make yourself admin on anyones server, its generally not wise to use solely an external ip for admin, internal would work, unless you have a local dhcp server assigning lan ip address, which then on the occasion would change your computers lan ip address, and make you not an admin. steam id is the easiest way, the best way is using the steam id AND the ip like STEAM_x:X:XXXXX ;IP so that way someone has to have your steam id and your ip address, but really isnt needed.

Just go in a server, type status and get your steam id, its the best way, trust me Wink and listen to candy-man too.. or he'll show up behind you in your bathroom Big Grin

I'm sure people have mentioned it before this post, but I was too lazy to read it:
I would HIGHLY suggest you use STEAMID's to authenticate your admins and NOT IP's. That's ok for a LAN maybe, but for a public server, it's best that you use something that somone can't just spoof. Hell, your ISP at anytime could release that IP to someone else.
