Lagomania...
#1
Sad
I'm running an 8 player CS:S dedicated server using ServerChecker (w/pingbooster enabled) and srcdsfspboost.
System:
Athlon XP 2600+
1GB PC3200 DDR RAM
80GB HD
Windows XP MCE
DSL (3MB down - 768 up)

According to everything I've read regarding the amount of bandwith needed, I should be able to run a 12 player server NP. Well, I can't even run 8 lag free. Whenever a fifth player tries to join, the lag and pings go through the roof. I've tried all kinds of dif settings, and nothing works. I've done all the system tweaks too. I'm running the following plug-ins, and am wondering if it's too much:
mani-admin-plugin
statsmeminimum
fakeclients
HilariousPlugin
mattie_eventscripts

Here's My server.cfg:

It's difficult to say. I'd suspect you'd be able to run a 6-8 player server off that connection/setup without any problems, but 12 would be pushing it, especially if you're running the pingbooster/fpsbooster.
If your network usage is holding, but you're still getting latency in the server, I would try experimenting with your maxrate, minrate and maxupdaterate. A good guide to what those values mean and what you should set them at is here:
http://www.serverwiki.org/index.php/Advanced_Tickrate
Unfortunately serverwiki's website has been down for the past day or two. Hopefully it'll be back up.
What is your tickrate set at?

Edit: Also, it's highly doubtful that your Mani-Mod is the source of your lag. If you want proof, just disable it and see if you're still getting any latency.

Thanks for the response. I believe the problem may be with My router.
I ordered a new US Robotics router, and hope that does the trick. I've seen Whisper's guide, and tried dif settings, but it didn't help. I agree that it's probably not the plug-ins.

try removing them plugins.

with your connection you should be very capable of running 8 players.

what router do you have?

and why do you insist on using something like us robotics? lol why not get better, like netgear i think darkzealot is always goin on about, or my lovely linksys, lol. actually i haven't heard much anything about us robotics routers, i used to have one of there old 56k dial up modems and had problems with it, although the fact it was dial up didn't help any Rolleyes

and also, whats cpu usage like on the computer while running with 5 players in the server?

and is this the same computer that your playing on?
