Spam Posts

Hello,

I've recently seen many spam posts on the forums, for people trying to get others to buy things or go to some random website in order to scam you or end up giving you viruses. Is there no way for these to be stopped as they cause a threat to other users of the forums?

Ive recently seen many spam posts from people trying to raise their post count so they can post in the advertising forum. These posts tend to be in old ass threads some of which are over 2 years in age. Is there no way for these to be stopped as they cause clutter and useless one lined shitposts agreeing with the previous post are just not necessary.

These forums are brilliant, it's a shame they're not used as much nowadays though. Is there any reason behind this ?

Suppose most people are starting to know what they are doing?

And most of the help requests are just "OMG plzzz helpz, my server not work", and I can't be asked to actually answer that type of posts.

I guess, well it'd be good if these forums started to get used again I think Smile They seem a little dead.

Ah I see, well as I've said, would love these forums to be more active especially as I am looking into hosting source servers since I got into them

That requires Valve to create new games which will bring new users and old users back. Since Valve hasn't released anything in particular lately the forums might seem a bit dead. Global Offensive didn't do much good and it was probably a mistake to make it... (my opinion), seeing as the community is now split up in 3 games instead of 2, where Source had the majority of players, which was the majority of this forum.

Many people fall from the SRCDS community(sadly), since it's aged and there are many more fancy things to do. But once Valve revive the engine, it will(hopefully) be sparkling new and shiny(Source Engine 2). And that would bring some life into these forums once again.

And keep the reports coming, I know there's a slight delay between reporting and action, but we're still here... sometimes. Wink

We can't do much about spammers, we have tried different mechanisms, but none of them seems to work properly. (recapcha etc)

Some off the silence around here might also be cauzed bij the new downloader 'steamCMD' There aren't any guides on here about that.

Really stopping spam accounts is relativly easy, don't allow any new registrations. Or better said only allow them with a steam account. .

There are other ways of protecting a MyBB forum without the need of recaptcha. I run a couple of popular MyBB forums which I've completely made it impossible for spambots to post.
