Hello everybody.
I use Gentoo linux operating system for srcds. We are having a few lag issues with it so i want to try to use another operating system to see if it fixes it.
Basically here are the specs:
Processor: Intel xeon e3-1270 @ 3.4 ghz
Ram: 16 gigabytes
Connections: 1 gbit
Server slots: 55
Server gamemode: Zombie Escape
We get timeout lags on certain maps(no other servers do it).
So what is the best operating system to use for linux on srcds that has the best performance?
CentoOS, Ubuntu, Debian? Any others?
Also 32 bit or 64 bit?

I read that NFO uses a specialized, in-house build of Gentoo which allegedly provides better stability than anything else out there; however since that doesn't seem to work for you, most people will probably suggest Debian.
However, I suggest you attempt to figure out the cause of your stability issues rather than just wiping the slate clean. What kernel are you using? What kind of lag issues is your server experiencing?

Alright i'm going to probably switch to windows.
Here's my quesiton:
What will run better(fps wise) at 55/55,
windows 2008 r2 or linux gentoo.

I'm using latest Ubuntu Server. Never had any problems with it.

Server 2008 or Linux does not have any differences, srcds was made for Windows though and later ported to linux. I use Ubuntu 12.04 (def) and it works perfect.

We have used Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, CentOS and Debian ( Ubuntu ) without any stability problems past hardware compatibility.

My vote is for Suse Linux 10.1 or higher. I've been using it since 2007. The user interface is very easy to use.

I'd strongly recommend CentOS. It's generally the top-choice of Linux distros for stability in IT.

CentOS sucks for hosting gameservers, it's old and more focused on stability and not new releases. Debian is a good choice and I use ubuntu myself.

I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and it works perfectly. Debian or Ubuntu are a fine choice.

Ubuntu Server is the best. It has the best support, lots of packages updated on a regular basis.
