cant connect on lan
#1
hiya

hope someone can help with this one. I am runnng hdls - downloaded using the update tool

I can start the server although I get 4 errors. they are:
couldn't exec language.cfg
couldn't exec config.cfg
couldn't exec listip.cfg
couldn't exec banned.cfg

now I dont have any of those files. My hdls is in a seperate folder to dod called valve_server. it is not in under the valve game folder. it is next to it.

the server seems to run and connects to steam ok. but i cant connect to it. I cant see it in the servers list or in the lan list.

so I have some questions:
Q1) can i run server and client on same machine?
Q2) can anyone tell me why I cant see it or connect to it
Q3) some people have said you can connect manually? how do I do this when the game cant start because there is no server. which main menu option gets me to the point where I can tell my dod client the servers ip addres???? I just cant figure it out.
Q4) some people have mentioned a gui to set this server up? where the hell is that? I can t see anything that looks remotely like a gui

thanks for any help

you can, but you have to have a pretty beefey computer to do so, both the client and server are resource hogs.

does the computer have a firewall blocking port 27015?

you do this by opening the game, pressing ~ for console, and you type "connect <servers ip>" you should be able to connect to the lan ip.

Q4) some people have mentioned a gui to set this server up? where the hell is that? I can t see anything that looks remotely like a gui
good.. gui sux... you should run the server in console mode.

what do you have as your start line?
