How many slots are you planning to host? For big servers it is the core frequency that counts, not the number of CPU's.

You never answered the question Smile
How many game servers and how many slots do you plan on hosting?
Many people actually use Desktop Hardware for game servers rather then Server Hardware.

Please do not PM me for server related help

Well, he did say warservers. I'm assuming 12 slotters then. I'd suggest a i5 (newer model) or a i7 2600(k).

A desktop processor better for game server hosting than a server processor?

We now have an server, with i7 870, with gentoo linux, but a few big 1.6 server using many cpu resource (80-90%) We need change this, or enought, if oc-ed aroud 4Ghz? Big Grin

Or the gentoo kernel, what we use now, not great for game servers?
