33 or 66 tick for ze
#1
Hello all, i have a ze server. It is 50 slots. And i got it full before on another machine but i wanna make it as stable as possible.
Now this and another server is the only one on the machine.
Here are the specs:
processor: intel xeon 1230 @ 3.2 ghz
ram: 16 gb
internet: 100 mbps
I don't know if i should make it a 33 or 66 tick server. And which is better.
And also can anyone tell me if the processor can handle it?
I'm also stuck between max update and cmd rate. I am not sure if i should make it max update rate to 33 or 66 same with cmd rate.
Please tell me how you think i should do it. Trying to make a perfect 50 slot ze server at a good stable fps.
Thanks,
Gamemann

Dunno if the CPU will handle 66 tick. Try 33 and see what happens. Use sv_mincmdrate 33 and max 66.

well when i got my server to 50/50 on the old machine(singe core 2.27 ghz processor) it actually handled it alright, like 3-15 fps at spawn. I would think 3.2 ghz can handle it XD but idk.

the difference in cpu usage between 33 and 100 tick is so miniscule it's not even worth mentioning. back in the day when servers were ran on single/dual core cpus with average clock speed, the difference was huge. BTW, changing the max updaterate/cmdrate does not change how much CPU usage the server will use. it's ticking at the same speed regardless of how many updates the client needs/is allowed to use

It's Windows dude.. If it were Linux you could optimize it MUCH more.

Windows is more stable for certain stuff that Linux can't do. Linux is the mainstream-OS when it comes to servers.
