Gift Boxes appearing when killing after last Steam update

Since last update on the 15th, we now see CSS gift rap boxes with a ribbon appearing on the server after kills.
Would anyone know what this is for and how can we deactivate this?

wow, you guys are clueless. this is valve's way of saying merry christmas to everyone. if you pick up enough boxes you get an achievement. they will remove this after christmas

Yes it is a valve update to say Merry Christmas basically. It won't stay.

Thats right and you need the achievement to get a gift for "the great gift pile"
