Weak CPU how to get most of it?

Hi,

I got a vserver with weak CPU up to 1000MHz.
Im currently running TF2 on it.

it can handle about 8 players and then it starts really heavy lagging.

I got the server for free and want to get the most of it.


are there any optimize solutions that I could do?
I dont really understand netsettings. like what every single command really does. so Im looking here for help.

btw its a trade Server and i just want the game running smother with more players, so hitbox detection must not be accurate.

like fps_max does not exist anymore but its locked to the tickrate.

I also want to say that the Internet connection is good, but the CPU is very weak. like what settings should I change to get most of the cpu?

Honestly 1ghz cpu for TF2 is just too little...
No idea how to help with it, unless spend $50 and get 3ghz cpu?

I suppose you could try the following rates:

sv_maxcmdrate 20
sv_maxupdaterate 20
sv_maxrate 10000

This would work in theory.

fps_max 20 will be even more cpu saving (by having a similar impact on the game play). but still I doubt it will be possible to run a server...

but fps_max does not exist anymore??

I'm dont think that my (any) provider would install another cpu if I would pay him only once. this would just cost just more monthly...


I will give post how the server will work if he is full.

hm ok. fps_max does still exist but it seems to have no impact on server fps anymore. sorry, I was assuming it still would limit below 66 fps.
