What rates should i set?

Intel C2D E7400 2.8ghz (2cores)
1.99GB RAM
Win Xp Pro 32bit
Running SRCDS CSS SERVER

My intenet
Advertised as 50/25 download/upload fibre connection. Connected via my 2wire router.
Actual speed


*Note its my local speed only, international speeds are way much lower but it shouldnt be a problem as im trying to serve local players only


I just started running a srcds css server (10player awp server), with sourcemod,rankme plugins. But some players do complain of slight delays. I have searched but i get alot of mixed opinions such as maxrate should be 20000 rather than 30000, 100tick and stuff. So can anyone help me with what rates i should set, Please help and tq in advance

Recommended values. These are what I use and i don't experience any network-lag.

When did the max rate get so high? Not that it really matters, I just haven't herd of anybody using 100k.

Yeah the maxrate is very high, wont it cause lags for some ppl since not all of them wont have the bandwidth for my minrate

Well, i just like to set it high so that people can use high rates if they want.

Your internet connection would support higher rates just fine, and 30 KBps = 240 kbps so your clients would need a minimum upload of 240kbps to play.

I love it when i see someone else recommending a very high maxrate. so often you get these servers that still use maxrates of 20000 or 25000 and you get choke constantly and it never feels smooth. 40000-50000 is the sweet spot for me on DODS while 100000 is perfect for goldsrc coop games with 100s of enemies on screen at once shooting at you

also, there are some source engine based games that have a maxrate of 30000 in the engine.dll that is specified. still, i recommend setting the value higher than that because it still reduces choke
