Random lag spikes
#1
Hi,

Im having some problems with my dedicated server doing random lagspikes/crashes/connection fails.

When theres at least 2 players in the server, the server are getting small spikes. Later (completely randomly, the server gets big lag, and connection getting lost.

OS: CentOS 6.0
Intel® Core™ i7-920 Quadcore incl. Hyper-Threading Technology
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 RAM
Hard discs: 2 x 750 GB SATA-II HDD
(Software-RAID 1)
NIC: 1 GBit OnBoard connected at 100 MBit
Traffic: Unlimited
220 GBit Bandwidth - (The box has JUST been set up, so that shuldnt be a problem yet.)
Game: Counter Strike Source

I run the server through TCadmin 2.0, -console -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +ip 176.9.16.197 -port 27045 +map "de_dust2"

The Box is BRAND new (less that 2 days) so there shuldnt be any problems with the connection.

Any thouhts? I Plan on hosting a lot more CSS servers on this box, so please give me a shout if you know anything.

If you need more info, for need me to do something, please write in here.

Thanks,
Wild_ib

Have you done any kernel optimalizations to it? If not, check out the fragaholics wiki with a lot of tutorials on how-to do it.

Nope, not yet, i might do this in a moment however.

The lag is very obvious in the TCadmin specs overlook, when it starts laggin, almost every CPU goes up to ~ 100%

What about rates and that stuff?

..

Its so random when it actually comes..

Well, cpu usage shouldn't have anything to do with rates. It could be CentOS. It's very difficult to get it stable and preferable on to host gameservers on. Debian is much more recommended.

Edit: You say the cpu's go up to 100%? Srcds can only use one core. I suggest the os might be responsible for this.

Thats strange. When i contacted TCAdmin about Linux support, they recommended CentOS.

What would you recommend me to do?

Thanks

Get a re-install with Debian and see if it goes away. Otherwise, i'd wait until someone more experienced comes on here and helps you.

We are having similar problems with one of our root servers.
Similar spec to your machine, the cpu usage is fine, network traffic isn't that high but yet we are having lags.

Still haven't got to the bottom of it yet.

We use ubuntu 10.04 64bit on both of our root servers, one is having problems, the other is fine. I am starting to suspect shenanigans.

Do you have problems if you run a fresh install of an OS with no TCAdmin installed?
