Determine L4D2 Version
#1
Hi Guys,

as L4D2 is updated by valve every few days and I couldn't get warm with the autoupdate function of srcds, I wonder if there's a simple way to query the current version number of L4D2 from a valve server in order to create a script that checks if my servers are out of date and starts a controlled shutdown/update/restart procedure. So, does anyone here know an easy way to get the latest version number, e.g. by using wget or something? Thanks a lot!

I too would like to know if there is a way to check the current game server version number. I run a TF2 server if that makes any difference.

i.e. if I type status in my console, I want to compare that version number against the current version that Valve has put out.

You could set a crontab to have your servers restart at a certain time. Tell me your server start up line and how often you want your server to restart and I can tell you how to set it up.

Well that's the thing, I can restart the server any time and run my update script, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I just want to know if I can check the current version on Valve's end.
