Why do people still run 100 tick servers??
#1
Im trying to find a simple explanation to why server owners run 100 tick servers. Valve removed the tickrate command a year ago I believe, but people are still obsessed on modding their servers with 100 tick - "we have 100 tick guys, play here!" With that tickrate enabler plugin

Is it really because of bragging rights, or do they really believe that 100 tick now will offer better hit registration, even factually these servers will use more CPU.

I suppose same question could be applied to those running "1000 fps" and high fps servers.

The explanation would be the same as to why you would want a 100tick server before CSS made the switch to Orange box, but since the Orange Box runs best on 66 tick, its pointless in having higher, imo at least.

As for server fps, that's a different matter.

Keep the fps at 66-67.

i actually found that 70 tickrate is the sweet spot on orange box with 70 fps. on dods with the MG42 ramboing and no scope sniping was pretty random on 66 tick while on 70 tickrate as long as im aiming at them it will hit them. the registration is a lot better on 70 than 66. i tried 100 as well but it actually seemed to make it worse, probably because the cpu is overloaded with that setting (srcds using up a whole core means its overloaded)
