SRCDS Steam group


What could this run?

Dual Xeon X5680 Processors(3.33GHz, six cores).
48 Gigs of memory(DDR3-1333MHz).
Three 15k HDDs.

(CSS, TF2, etc).

48gb of ram. . . Really? And my god, that machine is a beast! I think the limiting factor would be the bandwidth! But I would say roughly 2 32 slot per core.

Yes, that is quite a lot of ram, very overkill unless your running like 80 minecraft servers with their poor memory allocation. I don't know if I would put 2 32 slot servers on one core though, but I mean you can try. I'd say 1 32 and maybe a 20 slot, but I mean there is only so much you can guess at once you start trying.

Well I assumed that Source games require a good amount of RAM to run. Is it the other way around? If so, it would save quite a bit of money.

On that processor? 2 32 slot's will max each core though, as in regular css game playing, but also depends on the mods. As for source using a lot of ram, yeah it dosent need that much. Even 8gb is a way over kill.

Steam games take about 300-500MB per server, just a ball park figure, not much more than that though on average.
