Is it possiable to host a decent server on this connection?

I've been hosting a 24 slot server on my home connection and it is playable but once there is about 10 or more people on the lag spikes get pretty intense. So before I go messing with rates and settings I'm wondering if this is as good as it gets

Those hardware and upload speeds should be fine, when your running the server are you doing any sorts of download / uploading other than just hosting srcds and playing on the server?

No, Ill be out of the house and the only thing using the internet is the server and I still hear people complain about lag spikes.

Home connections were really never designed to host network intensive applications such as these. Even the most minor ISP issues can cause packet loss, ping spikes and disconnections. You really need to have the server colocated or rent a dedicated server for reliable stability.

Or get a fiber-connection to your house. It does the same. In Norway, Altibox's got 2 hops to NIX (the exchanging shit) so pings are steady to Europe.

Use the QoS-features of your router and protect your server against exploits by using plugins such as DAF.

Update: A local data center has offered me $50/mo for a dedicated 5mbps connection. Is 5mbps good enough for one server as long as it is stable in a data center?

Well.. You'll probably be able to host a 24 slot server on it. Not more.

Yes 5 Mbit will be plenty of bandwidth if your just wanting to host one server.

Our production game server machines pull less than 5Mbps on average. You should be fine.

Also that is probably 5Mbps on the 95th with 100Mbps burstable. Which means 95% of the time you need to be using 5Mbps or less. Which is good because this allows for about 30 - 36 hours of burstable time per month.
