Looking to rent a server
#1
I'm thinking of renting a server but I'm wanting to stay in the budget of $40-100 monthly. I want to run 2 Counter Strike Source servers. This primary being most like a 32 slot dust_2 server. The other I would like to be around a 24 slot Gungame server. I live in the Atlanta, GA area so it would be ideal to have the server hosted close but isn't a deal breaker (as long as the ping is good). I have experience setting up srcds on debian (been testing setup on ESXi box here at home) and I don't think windows setup would be a problem either. I am basically looking for the best bang for my buck and since we are just starting out this seems good to me.

My questions are:
- should we go for a dedi?
- if so what specs should we be looking for
- PM me some suggestions on companies that fit my scenario

I'd suggest just Googling some and finding a company or two. Contact their Live Support and getting a quote from them on their best deal for you. Then shop around with that quote asking other providers if they can beat that deal.

You could probably get away with a dual core CPU, and 2GB Ram if you are just hosting those three servers. Ideally you'd want has high CPU processor as you can.If you go here:

You can get bencmarks of CPU's are see how much bang you'll get for your buck. Just like anything else, you'll want to shop around and get a good deal.

4GB DDR3 RAM
160GB SATA II 7200 RPM Hard Drive

Thanks for the info and fast reply. I have been shopping around and I just can't decide if it'd be better to use a dedi or shared server. I know the advantage of having a dedi means your resources are guaranteed but I just need a general idea of what specs I need to run the 2-3 servers I need.

I'll be going in with a partner on the cost of the rental. The plan is to set everything up on the ESXi and test the configs. Then we plan to rent a box for a month and if satisfied we will rent it for a year.

I will go checkout cpubenchmark and see what I can get out of the plans I have seen that fit my budget. Thanks again and I'm sure I will be frequenting this and other post on srcds which from what I have seen is a great resource and community!

I was actually look at that plan but didn't want to name drop. Do you have anything in the Atlanta area? I know those are in Kansas City right?

Yea, We don't have anything in Atlanta. The latency shouldn't be too bad,

Ping wholesaleinternet.net to test it out.

Here is my results, But then again, I'm in the facility right now Toungue

I don't know. This may be to much machine for us. I have to admit these are pretty great prices compared to what I've seen. Take into consideration we only need to run 2 servers. Then you can break it down for me Big Grin

1 - 32 slot CS:S
1 - 24 slot GunGame Deathmatch Turbo

Well you can always run more than what you want. It's within your budget and should perform well. You can also run your website, fast downloads, and other such things on a dedicated machine.

Plus with this quad you would have room to expand your community further in the future. Toungue

Thanks so much for doing that but I talked to my partner and we are going to go with renting a 32 slot and maybe a 24 slot server from you and run the web stuff on my web host. I'll PM you with some questions.

Aw alright then. You would probably enjoy having the freedoms of a dedicated server. It's the way to go if you can afford it Toungue

Go ahead and email me your questions brandon {at} sleekservers.com
I will have to answer them in the morning as I'm deathly tired from the trip.

He asked!

I don't think that assisting a user in locating a dedicated server provider is advertising if he requests it. I was simply showing him a product that we have available to aid him in his search.

Nothing is preventing you from doing it as well Toungue

I suppose if it's a big problem then I will just PM them from now on.

Mods correct me if I am wrong, but you are not suppose to advertise on these forums, except in the appropriate forum. I don't do it, as it is frowned upon.
