FPS drop's on the 40 slots server
#1
Big Grin
Hello. Sorry for my bad English.

Is there any way to do stable FPS on big publick servers. On 40 slots server we have unreal lags, fps drops to 30... What can we do?

I cant say exactly server configuration, but i know thats its powerful machine(2 xeon, 12 gb ram etc, OC Linux)

Big thank.

First is the server with a hosting company? It could be the box is being overloaded and causing the FPS to drop.

Are you running any mods on your server? If so what are they? Have you tried just running a normal 40 slot server?

Can you find out how fast the CPU is on the machine? If its only a 2.0GHz CPU it might struggle because that large of server would eat up a whole core easily especially with mods.

seems nowadays the CPU requirements for srcds are increased again... probably your cpu is too slow. running a > 40 slot server usually requires the fastest cpu available on the market...
but you can try reducing the (effective) tickrate. on such large servers a tickrate of 33 is perfectly fine, probably it will be even better for most people with lower hardware and connections. us sv_maxcmdrate and sv_maxupdaterate and set them to 33. I would also try fps_max around 35 or so to achieve 33 fps (try different values until you have exactly 33.3 fps on average. the correct setting for this will vary from system to system)

also maybe some system optimizations can help. see my signature for details. I would recommend a zen kernel on a 64 bit system.
