Rates - Have they changed?
#1
I'm just wondering with recent updates and Orangebox, are the rate settings I'm using for TF2 and CSS correct?

Code:
sv_minrate 20000
sv_maxrate 30000
sv_minupdaterate 66
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_mincmdrate 66
sv_maxcmdrate 67

Some people have said the max rate should be higher? Bandwidth isn't a problem so just wanted to find out whether these could be tweaked for even better connectivity.

Also, should I be setting any other rate settings? (CSS and TF2)

Thanks. Smile

Nah, they seem okay. You could adjust the minrate and maxrate a bit higher, but it's not a issue if it's a public server.

maxrate should be higher, but all minimums should be lower, unless you want to exclude people with a not so good connection to your server.

Could you give me some examples? (Bandwidth isn't an issue)

Code:
sv_minrate 5000
sv_maxrate 100000
sv_minupdaterate 33
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_mincmdrate 33
sv_maxcmdrate 67

Something like that. At my servers (running a 1gbit port) i'm using a minrate of 50000 and a max of 100000. + the player rate tracking system released.

u should exclude people. You want only the best in your server Smile

I'd say unless people are complaining about "this server sucks" or "no hit registration" then you'd be safe with the rates michael stated. I'd only bump up the lower rates if people we're complaining.
