Ubuntu x 64 - Rates - high CPU - I7 870?
#1
Hello i just got installed :

Linux version 2.6.38-8-server (buildd@allspice) (gcc version 4.5.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-8ubuntu3) ) #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:49:04 UTC 2011

On a Intel I7 870 + 8 Gig ram - Internet 60/60 mbit up/down garanteed 24/7

and I need some help wiht rates ,because I want to get the most out of the machine.

Because is 64 bit Os I have installed the libraries :

apt-get install ia32-libs
apt-get install lib32gcc1

so far so good ... but sometimes the core where the server is running hits 90 -95 % and stays like this for about 5 sec...is that normal ? (I dont feel lag in the server)

I have this rates set : (game is CSS)

This are for 40 slots servers :

Code:
sv_minrate 15000
sv_maxrate 50000
sv_minupdaterate 66
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_mincmdrate 66
sv_maxcmdrate 67

Any advice here for better performance ?

Any help would be appreceated.

Thank you

Could be something else, or did you monitor the SRCDS usage(and not the cpus)?

"top" or "htop". It's a CPU monitoring program. You can watch the CPU usage of every single process thats running on your system, obviously you will be looking for SRCDS. Smile

top is default; htop is less of a mess to navigate around in.

High looks like SRCDS is causing massive CPU usage, but you said that it did not have any decrease in performance? (might be a glitch)

I am runing them with 40 bots on a server ... is this the problem ..? i doubt but how to check what is causing the cpu load ?

Edit : Oh i see now is every round start .... so what is the problem ?

40 bots will cause massive cpu load!

what do you plan to do? bots are not suited for testing server performance, they use more cpu than human players but also in a very different way.
