Client crash after webserver download
#1
I currently run a couple of maps and some custom sounds like mani admin, quake and some homemade soundbites. I use downloadurl for some webspace I have available which holds the sounds and the customer map I'm running atthat time if using.

The server runs fine and slients connected to the server and playing are fine, but if files need to be downloaded, upon completion of the download, the client crashes and returns to desktop. This means that players are downloading the files, but not joining in the games.

Is there any reason for this? Please help, my server is quiet. I've had 45 users connect to the server and then show as disconnected by user, but the connected time is the time it takes to download all the files. I've even deleted all the files from my client directory and reconnected, the same happens to me and i'm on the same LAN.

Thanks

do the files actually download? cuz i know sometimes it will say its downloading files, but its really not, and while i have never heard that to crash the client, i wouldn't doubt it. but basically.. after you deleted all the files, and downloaded the maps, did it put them back? so really you could just reconnect, not have to download anything, and then play? cuz if thats they case i really have no idea.

yeh, the files do download, and play fine. all you have to do is restart cs and play. I've now asked a couple of regulars and they can't remember if they had the problem or not. It may be due to impatient players, although my custom sounds are decent and worth the download.

Could it just be me. scenario

1. I sit on LAN client 192.168.1.100
2. my server runs on LAN client 192.168.1.101, with portforwarding to allow for internet connection
3. my client sees the server as 192.168.1.101:27015
4. external users see as 86.127.33.158:27015 (for example)
5. my server fires me off to webserver for downloads
6. webserver fires me back to 86.127.33.158:27015
7. but my client doesn't recognise that ip due to LAN and crashes.

Does this sound plausable, and the low play rate is just due to impatient players, (3 1/2 minutes for full set including custom map)?

Thanks

well no.. i run a server on lan, and i used to as well have fast downloads. and its your client that connects, and reconnects, and if you tell it to connect to the lan ip, it doesn't even know the external ip, the server doesn't even know the external ip. soo yea. soo i don't know. lol. im lost. i never had any sorts of problems like that. especially if the files are actually downloading.

I also run a server on lan with sv_downloadurl set to a website and when I connect using my internal ip I get fired to the web, and fired back to the server just fine. Outside clients also get back to the server just fine apon finished file download.

**Edit**

Some free ftps will not allow clients to download properly. It looks like they download, but they dont actually download.

Long time no speak. The files download OK, I compared my directories to the server and everything was there. it doesnt try to download files again and all the soundbites play ok. and I can then join OK. Had 45 guys on yesterday throughout the day and ranked players went up by 10 so no-one else may be having the problem.

May be my client

Cheers anyways guys.
