How many slots I can fit. Linux centos5.5
#1
Question
I know that it had been asked many times but each configuration is different. I would appreciate if you guys can help.

CentOS 5.5
Intel® Core™ i7-920 Quadcore
8 GB DDR3 RAM
2 x 750 GB SATA-II HDD
1 GBit OnBoard
connected at 100 MBit
Monthly traffic limit is 5000 GB/month

I will be running Counter Strike: Source servers. How many game servers with 32 slots can I fit?

Thanks for your time.

1 server pr. core, that will be 4 servers in total.

The disks, internet, and ram is fine.

that opteron might be too small to run a 32 slot server at all... and RAM is usually not the issue, a server takes about 200~400 MiB depending on maps and plugins.

thanks very much for your infos.

in that logic lets say if i get:

Running ubuntu10.10 (no apache, mysql etc)
VPS (acting as dedicated server)
1 core is dedicated to me.
RAM 512 MB
20 GB HDD
NIC100 MBit
Traffic 1 TB

with sourcemod, installed on CS:S can i host 32 slots. or should I go with 1024mb. I am just trying to understand the logic.

Hmm 512MB ram should be alright.
What's the more precise specs of the CPU?

Okey I think the cpu is Intel® 2.8GHz i7 raid5, it is 4 core processor so one core is mine.
I learned that they provide the virtulization with KVM.

You should be able to run 1 server with 32slots on that CPU, if you got one core completely dedicated to you. Smile
