Change MaxPlayers with RCON?
#1
Is there a way to change the maxplayers without changing the command line to start the server in the server.sh script?

Server is running on Fedora Core 3.

Thanks.

Unfortuntately the max player limit can only be changed by re-starting the server.

I think trying to change it throught the console just gives you an error.

lol ofcourse you cant change it thru console. All the game server rental companies would be out of buisness. Buy an 8man server for one price, then change it to a 32 man later on. lol. it would be sweet for the consumer, but not the company.

You're logic is flawed on why it can't be possible. Most server leasing companies use Server Doc to start and stop the server and the command line is editable from that console. And no it is not "sweet" for the consumer, since the server company will catch it immediately if you set it higher than what your lease was for.

WHS!
Many games do allow you to change the maxplayers from the console and takes effect immediately when a new map loads. e.g the entire medal of honor series, and im pretty sure its native to the quake engine also.

GSP's will catch people out immediately, and in most terms of service a clause is written in that the company can charge the client for violations of this rule. Whenever you rent a server you are legally bound to the terms of the contract.

If you violate and dont pay, expect the company to force an appearance at a small claims court.

TCAdmin at least blocks you from changing your servers tickrate and player slots, if the GSP has disallowed it. Some of the other CP's I'm sure do the same.

I achieved that in CS:S, Your host mustn't have to block maxplayers

I did it with HLSW

rcon disconnect
<server will not respond to ping but rcon will work>
rcon maxplayers 32
rcon map de_dust2

That should do the trick D:
