SRCDS fps problem
#1
Hello I run a server on a windows operating system and I have been for about a year now. I have always run this server at 500 fps. However in the past month no matter what I set fps_max to the fps will not change it is always a constant 200fps. I have tried changing fps_max in the command line and the cfg file neither have had any effect. I do not know what has caused it to do this I have not made any major changes. If anyone has any idea as to a way to fix this please any help is appreciated. Also let me know if you need more info to help troubleshoot my problem.

i believe fps_max is a client setting but i don't know.... So ask other people what their fps is on the server... If that doesn't fix it then look at the tickrate i believe...

fps_max is the right command for this. but only certain fps values are possible, and the engine will "fall down" to the next possible value. you might need a higher setting to achieve 500 fps than "500". try "1000" or try "0" (for unlimited).

BUT: for orangebox games (like all major titles, e.g. CS:S, TF2, DOD:S) you don't need high fps. they do not improve the engine. ~200 fps are perfectly fine. better is even to match the fps exactly to your tickrate (i.e. usually 66.67), but be careful not to be slightly higher than the tickrate in that case (e.g. 68 fps are already "evil", 65 fps are better!). if you cannot control it so precisely, your current 200 fps are the best choice!
