TF2 Server not showing in the Internet Tab

Hello! I just finished going through this guide step by step, that I found on the forums here:

I can now connect to my own server, that is listed in the LAN tab for tf2.

The problem is, I don't see my server on the internet tab. How do I make it so I, and others, can see it there?

What I'm using:
-Windows 7
- Compaq 64 bit
- WRT54GS Linksys on: v2.07.1 -- has a cable plugged into a "Dynex" box for my internet access. (I think the box is just a cable splitter though? Ultimately it makes 3 cables plug into 1 phone jack.) and I can't find my Dynex model on the list for port forwarding.


What I've tried:
- Tried to 'port forward' my WRT54GS Linksys with the "Steam Server" link. (from here: http://portforward.com/) - no go



Any suggestions on how to make it so the server is listed for all to see?

Open your ports, configurate firewall.

There is hopefully a tutorial here: http://portforward.com/ just find your router and then select your game

I see the list has these for Dynex:

* DX-E401
* DX-E402
* DX-NRUTER
* DX-WEGRTR

But my model says DX-ESW5

is this going to be a problem? Or am I not looking at the right number/letter combo?

Try them all and find the one which is most identical to your own.

hmm...okay I'll try that now.

On the lists, I don't see 'team fortress 2' or 'tf2'...but I did see "steam server". Would that work?

Or would I pick "half life server" perhaps?....(the guide I used seemed to use HL as a base for a lot of things, though it was intended for tf2)

Something weird...

When i type in my internal IP address into the browser, the page shows 'Linksys'. But the actual 'box' my internet cables are plugged into is "Dynex"...

You can take any HL2 game, they do require the same ports.

I think you are possibly plugged into multi routers.

So instead of steam server, I should select any of the half life ones?

If you have two routers you will have to do this on both of them

You can just select Counter-Strike. It should be similair.

Well I only have one 'box' that the internet cables plug into, so....

I'm sorry I'm still just really confused ;^;

I'll try the 'counter-strike' option right now to see what happens. (is it "Command and Conquer Red Alert Counterstrike"? that's the only counterstrike option i see on the list.)




I'm almost wondering if this has something to do with my firewalls.....because I went through and did the whole port forwarding thing for 'steam server' on the list and it still didn't work.

I don't know if this is of any matter, but according to my setup page (the one you get to if you type in your IP address) I have a WRT54GS Linksys router....has anyone been able to run a server successfully with that?

You must also allow SRCDS through Windows firewall.

What ports they did you open? Also, wasn't your router brand called Dynex and model was DX-ESW5?
Just asking, because now you said you had a Linksys router. Well try to Google for a solution, so you can see if your router is compatible with SRCDS.

Well that's what I'm confused about.

When I go to my admin page (when I type my IP address in the URL bar) It shows me a Linksys page.

BUT:

the BOX my internet cables plug into is a Dynex-ESW5. That then plugs into the phone jack.

So I wasn't sure which one to do. I only went with the Linksys option because I couldn't find my Dynex model on the list of links for port forwarding.

It told me to only open these ports:
27005-27015
with protocol set as 'both'.

Try to tracert http://www.google.com and post the result here or send it to me as a private message. I want to see it, so I can check if you are using multiple routers.
