SRCDS Steam group

[RESOLVED]friends cant connect via lobby to l4d1 server
#1
when i try to start a friends only game on my l4d1 server i get a friend to join then when i use the console command mm_dedicated_force_servers "my local ip" i am able to connect to my server but my friend cant, he gets the failed after 10 retries error.
when i go through the steam group servers list and enter a game at my server my friend can then connect to it but so can the public.
ive tried using my external ip but neither of us can connect to my server when i use that. the server its self displays my internal ip as its ip. ive tried to change that to use my external ip and the server goes command line mode instead of its usual GUI mode and i cant connect at all or even find it in my steam group servers list.

it has sourcemod and metamod installed and no mods. server isnt password protected nor does it have a steam group only assignment.

i want to know is there a way to friends only lobby connect to my l4d1 server, hopefully one that will allow my friend to join the game.

Why don't you use a password for your server? Also your friend should connect with your external IP. And the IP that is displayed in the server console is your local ip and this IP are the one SRCDS is bound to. You should connect with the local ip. Smile

i tried to password it before but it never asked for the password and let anyone join. i dont know how to get him to connect with my external ip though, i type into the game console in lobby my local ip for the mm force dedicated servers command he doesnt do anything. so should he be typing an mm force server command also into his console with my external ip?

Make him type "connect What's my ip address, create your own visitors IP image" in his console Smile
