can't excute server.cfg
#1
Ok this is the problem that I'm having I didn't have a server.cfg file in my cfg folder in srcds. My server will excute I can get in the server and other peps can too does show up on css list just no rcon pw. So what I did was create one of course put in it the cfg folder in the srcds. The question that I'm asking is how do I excute this config now since I have it in my folder. When I boot up the server I get couldn't excute server cfg do I have to put something on my taget line or command line to excute this. In game I can't excute this config, because I have no rcon since srcds can't find server config.

http://forums.srcds.com/showthread.php?tid=1581 don't open multiple posts about the exact same thing..

but yea.. make sure its named server.cfg not server.cfg.txt

right click on the file, and click properties, and see if under the name it has a .txt extension, cuz then it won't work. you do NOT have to have anything special in the cmd line.. cuz obviously.. it said it lookd for it already, just didn't find it.

are you running the server off of steam? if so make sure its in source dedicated server and not counterstrike source (i have had people do that a lot). and if not disregard this part.

-edit- you can also set it so it wont' hide the actual extension by clicking start-my computer, and then clicking tools-folder options. click View, and then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". i know thats it for xp.. not exactly sure on anything else, probly pretty close though.

I had this problem and had a cleaver resolution.. First what you are going to do is go into your CFG directory, and find one of the current cfg files.. Copy it, and Paste it so it is named like Copy Of File, and also has the original there...Now you are going to go into the original, and paste everything there u want to be in server.cfg. You are to save it, DONT CHANGE THE NAME. SIMPLY HIT SAVE. and X out.....Once you are in the folder cfg, the file you just did, rename it server..NOT server.cfg because windows does not display .cfg, although its there, so if you name it "server.cfg" it will really be server.cfg.cfg...Anyway, once you right click, rename as server, then find the copy you made, and right click that, and rename it to whatever it use to be...example, i used the SKILL file, so it said Copy of Skill, and just rename to skill, so in the end, its like you just made a whole new file. This way it works, because its not naming it .cfg.txt. Now start srcds and it will execute it fine!

or you could do that, and it will display all extensions.. much easier. and also it helps for lots of other things as well, especially for like graphics or webdesign. i know i would go insane if my computer hid all extensions..
