How to run in 100 Tick mode?
#1
Hi guys,

Just wanted to know, since the OrangeBox patch I heard that they disabled 100 Tick mode but you can get it back in another way. How do I get this back? What is this otherway? Or is it still the same?? (in command line)

Cheers![/align]

there is a hack to enable tick 100 again. but this does not improve the server quality, on the contrary, it will get worse. the engine is designed to run with tick 66, and it's best to keep it that way.

I was wondering why, after all the configurations I did, 100-tick wouldn't work. Now I know. Rolleyes

So running 100 will not benefit at all anymore. I'll have to let my team know so they don't burst into a fit lol.

yes, valve change the engine so that tick 66 is now better than tick 100 before usually...

Just a question, now when we are having a talk about this. What if i would like to lower the tickrate, would that be like hell or ?

Because they were told more is better.

I would have to say so... 33 tickrate is good for large populated game servers, but then again orange box automagically adjusts for tick rate drops because of population. Unlike source which just lagged it to hell. Ive noticed high volume servers dropping to 20 ticks and yet the game is running smooth.

Just try it out, I don't think anyone will notice on a public server. valve has fixed the lag compensation so that rates higher than the human eye can recognize (i.e. usually 30, remember cinema is using 24 fps!) are no longer required to achieve high precision. (that's what loopyman described with automagically adjustment ;-)). it was more like a bug in the original source engine.

(nb: lowering tickrate for me means now using server-side rate limits, as there is no -tickrate option anymore.)

Or just leave it at the defaults and let the engine adjust it...

If you complain about the orangebox hit registry, play Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2, or anything new... You will be glad that orangebox has the hit registry that it does.
