Failed to load launcher dll, need help ASAP
#1
When I attempt to run srcds nothing happens, when I run it with task manager open srcds.exe shows up for a second then disapears, I run it as user... current user, I get this error.

Failed to load the launcher dll

the specified module could not be found

I am not running srcds on my home computer, nor am I running it via steam, I am running the stand alone server (updated perfectly without any errors from scratch using hldsupdatetool.exe)

The box is allready running 7 HLDS (it can run several more no problem it's not a system resource problem, and I ran srcds without any unnesisary programs running just to make sure) i've done tis before without any problems, and I can't seem to find this problem on this forum or on steampowered. well there was some mention on steampowered but all they said was reinstall and i've done this twice to no avail, i'm hesitant to keep doing it as the box is hosted remotely and bandwidth is charged by per MB, and 900MB every 30 minutes sure stacks up the usage.

Any help at all with this problem would be greatly apresiated, I have tried and tried and it's sending me insane

be sure you have -game cstrike on the start up line. and if your trying to run in console mode be sure you have -console -maxplayers #players +map MAP NAME. if all the other servers run no problem, then its not the computer, and if you reinstalled it a couple times, then it shouldn't be it. when you reinstalled it you deleted everything right? even the hl2 folder, and cstrike folder. im thinking its probly the start up line though.

heres a basic command line for example
c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map cs_office -maxplayers 16 -autoupdate
#4
see and I was under the impresion I needed to use -game "counter-strike source" as I updated it, thanks guys up and running.
#5
yes.. that is what you use to update the server. but to run the server its just cstrike.

Any ideas why this doesn't work, I get the same problem with steam.dll not loaded, and launcher.dll...

"D:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxxx\source dedicated server\srcds.exe" -game hl2mp -console -tickrate 66 +fps_max 600 +maxplayers 8 -port 27015 +map dm_lockdown +exec server.cfg
#7
Forgot to mention that's what I have in the windows shortcut. The xxxx is normally my steam name.

This is what I have in Start In:

"D:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\wwiii\source dedicated server"

Appreciate any help.

so your trying to start the steam version of srcds without steam?

that won't work, follow the tutorial on this site and download the stand alone version. then it will work.

Please do not PM me for server related help
