[HOWTO] Find out your Bandwidth Speed
#1
One thing that I see a lot is confusion about what this means. This is just a short tutorial about how to find your bandwidth speed.

Bandwidth speed is not the speed of your NIC (Network Interface Card), but of your connection to your ISP. Very rarely will you get a full 100mbps, even if that is what it advertised (expect 65-80% of 100mbps).

Here is what your bandwidth speed IS NOT:

Instead, use a site like http://www.speedtest.net or http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest to determine your network speed.

NOTE: Sometimes with higher bandwidth, it will not work depending on the datacenter you are running the test on. Be sure to try it on at least 3 different locations to determine better.

Note: The speakeasy test is the same as the speedtest.net

Also, Sometimes the speed test sites are inaccurate. I find the best way to test your speed is to download something... Or torrent Linux ISO's Toungue
Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

The only problem with testing speeds on a download is because the other server may be slower than yours. However 9 times out of 10, a download from a server will be way faster than your connection.
