Noob Setup Assistance
#1
Ok, before you flame me, or "instruct" me how to use the search function, please understand I have read this forum (and others) and am at a stand-still on this darn Source server. I will now give you all of the information, and if you have any thoughts or insight, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

The problem: Dedicated Server on a Windows system. LAN (Local) access works just fine, but WAN (Internet) access is not working. I have opened the recommended ports, and then placed the server in the DMZ (I read the portforward.com information on the DI-624) is open. I cannot access the system from the WAN side.

The layout: Static internet connection (IP known) NAT'ed and fed thru a D-Link DI-624 (Firmware Version 2.70, Wed 27 July,2005) attached to a Intel PRO/100 VE NIC (Using the Microsoft XP Driver) that is running on an Intel system with Windows XP SP2 (Firewall disabled).

Here is the IPCONFIG /ALL

I am using option 3 from the example setup. Here is my startup line;

@echo off
cls
echo Protecting srcds from crashes...
echo To shut down srcds, close this window first.
title Day of Defeat: Source dedicated server
:srcds
echo (%time%) srcds started.
start /wait C:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game dod +hotname
"Woodys Day of Defeat : Source server" +map dod_anzio +maxplayers 24 -tickrate 66
echo (%time%) WARNING: srcds closed or crashed, restarting.
goto srcds

This seems to work just fine. I have played around with adding the +IP and -Port, but they seem to have no effect.

Here is what I see in the conslole after executing the srcds.bat

That seems to be what I should see. (Please correct me if I am wrong.) LAN connection is no problem at this point.

Here is the result of a STATUS in the console;

Ok, so here's where I am at a loss. I connect to LAN and can connect to the server with no problems (selecting LAN in the server search options). When I try to connect from the WAN side (from another network/at home) it just wont work. When I try to add the external IP to my favorites it just won't do it.

Any thoughts oh wise and noble souls?

PM me or email me for the external IP. Once again, thanks in advance. Smile

--UPDATE--

After running the heartbeat command from the console a few dozen times the server shows up on the server list. I can connect and play from the WAN (Internet). woot.

Here is an odd issue though, it *still* will not let me add the server in my favorites by manualy inputing the IP address : Port. Why is that?

I have the exact same problem but this is getting worse:

Local server through Symantec Hardware Firewall security gateway 360.
I configured all to go through internet:

sv_lan 0
port 27015

then when it starts it says
192.168.0.4 MP, 27015

users can only direct connect to it from outside (through internet) but nobody can find it in the server list.

I tried heartbeat a million times.

hmm.. so they can connect, then it should be on the master list. could be just when they look it got congested and didn't show up for them, or you have sv_region set wrong, which i don't remember the right settings for that.. but if they can join, and if it shows up on game-monitor.com then it should show up on the server list, and everything should be fine.

@woody: Forward the necessary ports from your router to your server.

@tcviper: Same, open ports. You are now blocking certain standard steam ports, which communicate with the valve servers.
