Lags on srcds between unpacking
#1
hello,

i have the following problem.
i installed a srcds server and had fun with 20 players on it with some plugins like eventscript. i tried between playing to install another server on the same machine.

I7 860 (quad core)
8gb ram (ddr3)

i installed the image (2gb size) and got a lot of lags (at unpacking the files) on the other gameserver. i dont know why... i tried to reduce the load and test 100hz and dyn tick hopefully for more throughput, but same result.

some ideas?

So what went wrong exactly? What are you unpacking?

i unpack on the server via ssh the same image which i use for the running gameserver on the same root. when 20 players are playing and i unpack the image (2GB big) then starting big lags over 5-10 seconds standing ovation - you cant move. i dont know why...i tried some kernel options to figure it but no solution.

quite natural. you can try reducing the effect by running srcds with realtime scheduling (see my howto, lower part) and running the unpacking with both nice and (more important) ionice (the latter might need to be installed first).

I guess that the harddrive are very busy when you are unpacking your stuff, thats why it might lag..

that's why I suggested the use of ionice. that can reduce the influence...
