My TF server according to Beck's guide isn't working
#1
Hey there , I am posting this according to Beck's guide. http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/5439

I followed everysingle step except for the download locations ofcourse. Now I type C:\TFserver\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf -hostport 27015 +maxplayers 10 +map ctf_2fort

The server starts up. This is brilliant oh my it worked ! But.. I start up TF2 on my other computer, both on the same network, and I type in my external IP with :27015 at the end into add to favourites with no filters on and all I get is "server is not responding". I have opened a port : tf2 27015 - 27015 UDP 192.168.1.x.

Also when I start up the server , the last few lines are : "Can't use cheat command mp_forcewin in multiplayer unless the server has sv_cheats set to 1.
Unknown command "mp_teststalemate"
exec: couldn't exec ctf_2fort .cfg
Connection to steam servers successful
VAC secure mode is activated "

I have set region to sv_region 255 and lan is sv_lan 0

What could be the problem, please help!
_____________________________________________________________

*Edit : Server doesn't even show up in Lan
*Edit : added sv_lan 1 can see on lan now. Took it off, server is no longer a lan server. Still am unable to see my server
*Edit : can now see my server with sv_lan 0. Other people can not connect. Also when i right click and go to game info in TF2 my game IP is my internal ip . How can i change this, mabe it's the problem ?

If you are on the same network as the server, it will ALWAYS appear as a LAN server to you. Now your friends will not be able to just right click and join the server because it will appear you are playing on your local network. Instead, go to http://www.whatismyip.com and give them that IP address.

I have done that and they get the "server is not responding" message. Also I give them my IP which would be 218.x.x.x and with that and :27015 at the end they can't see it. And when I check my console it is showing random people joining and leaving most likely because no one is there. But when i search for my server on the find server service I cant even find it.And last thing, why when i click game info on my server the ip is my internal IP : 192.168.1.x? How can I make that my external if that is the problem

Edit: Would my sv_region being set to 255 have anything to do with it?

You cannot make it your external from the steam page; a downside to self hosting. Yeah and try changing the region.

Changed to region to 5 -Australia and when I change my Filter to Australia I can't see it ...

I was also told from the server to update. And I did, i got from command prompt :
"Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Instalation
Updating 'Team Fortress 2 Content' from version 160 to version 161

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

**Edit- Tried updating a second time. Worked. Now the only problem is to find out why people can't connect to my server when I give them the IP but random other people i dont know can join and play on my server.
**Edit- Found someone playing on my server, they gave me the ip of the server which is 218.186.109.9:27015. And it is completely different to the ip of the computer hosting the server....But when i go to favouriter and add server and put in 218.186.109.9:27015 i get server not responding...

Are you giving your external or internal IP address? It seems that 218.186.189.9 is the external and thus the correct address. Since you are on the same network, you are unable to see your server from the external IP address which explains why it shows not responding.

Yes I am giving my external yet the one I get from whatismyip.com is completely different to the one someone gave me after looking at my server info. I had someone connect with the different one it seemed to work, will post back soon if it does, the topic can be closed then. But I am still curious as to why the external ip adresse of my hosting PC was different to the one my server was running on

Do you have a dynamic IP address?
