Server Setup issues, srcds doesn't appear to work.

Hello all,

With much aggravation and irritation I have been trying to setup a CS source DS on a server and so far have had no luck, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The system is a Dell Poweredge 2650 server, running Server 2003 enterprise 32 bit, Dual P4 Xeon 2.8 Ghz HT processors, 8 GB ram, fully patched and dual intel pro gigibit NIC's.

So far after 3 attempts to download and install CS: Source, I will get all the way through the downloads and just as it appears to finish srcds.exe, i get a tcp winsock error, connection reset by peer. At this point I assume the download was successful since it indicates 100% complete. I then run an update and also a verify_all and it returns everything is fine and up to date.

The installation command I am using is hldsupdatetool - command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir , -verify_all

Attempt to start srcds and it does nothing. Run with elevated priviledges and it does nothing.

So this is where I am at.

How do you try and start it? What command line does you use?

At first i simply double clicked it to begin the GUI, which did nothing and then went to the command line and since I already had a preconfigured server.cfg script, attempted to just execute the file from the command line with elevated priviledges.

You need to run it like this or so:

c:\srcds\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map de_dust -maxplayers 16

That normally works at least.

So I am to assume that the GUI no longer exists? It came up and running after using that command, but I question why most guides refer to the GUI if it doesn't exist any more. I possibly went through 5 hours of hassle and troubleshooting for nothing.

Mine was working fine until the most recent HLUpdates. I get the same symptoms as you. You may notice that you are getting date/timestamped crash dump files where you are running srcds. I tried taking a look but they appear to be binary in nature. If I run in console mode it seems to work but sourcemod doesn't seem to be loading then...
