Fail to load steam serviceServiceStart: failed

Hi All,

I try to run srcds as the tutorial http://www.srcds.com/db/engine.php?subaction=showfull&id=1097362093&archive=

But I can not make Counter-Strike connect to that server and I found there is an error while i'm trying to run scrds (detail in attachment file)

Fail to load steam serviceServiceStart: failed

Could anyone advise how can I solve this problem?

Other than the ban error message, the server seems to be running.

Code:

netstat -a

in the command prompt will show if it is listening on your specified port 27016.
Check firewall configuration.

Thank for reply, yes server is running on port 27016 but i'm sure it's not firewall block the port, if it's not server problem it's maybe something wrong with counter strick client ? or would you mind to tell how can I check log at client side ? because when I add server in favourite it's not appear the server in the list and no error message was appear.

I'm using counter strike 1.6 or kindly advise where can I download the right counter strike game client?

If you've tried to use

in the 1.6 client console it can either succeed or fail, there's no detailed client log.
When it fails, the server is unreachable.

Try to connect from the same machine, then step it up to a local client followed by a client over the internet (if it's not a LAN server).

I've just noticed you seem to be running a CS source server, not 1.6.
Have a look at your screenshot: "game.dll loaded for Counter-Strike: Source".

Wait maybe i'm confused ?.
I use SRCDS to be a server and Counter-Strike 1.6 as a client.

after make srcds up and runs, I configure couter-strike 1.6 to connect to srcds server. It's wrong? or there is courter-strike 1.6 server?

as I read

"Srcds allows you to to serve an online game in a virtual environment. If you have a good connection and computer available, you can simply install the software and prepare your virtual battlefield to be entered. srcds will serve all Half-Life 2 ("Game of the year 2004") based games, including Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source and alot more modifications!"

Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike source are very different.
1.6 uses hlds.exe as it's not built around the source engine.

Do you want to host a 1.6 or source server?
1.6 and source clients cannot be mixed; 1.6 clients cannot join source servers and source clients cannot join 1.6 servers.

Thank you very much, seem detail enough for me to get idea on game server like counter-strike.

srcds is server of counter-strike source clients.

would you mind to tell me the link where can i setup counter-strike 1.6 server?

I would like to try both and select the best one.

I sense that you haven't played CS before, am i right?
Well, it's obvious you need to have CS 1.6 and CS:source games if you want to try both.

Install Steam and register an account if you haven't done so yet.
Buy the games in the Steam store and install them.
Once you've done that practice on existing servers.

To play on servers you must buy the game in question, to run a dedicated server you do not need to buy the game but for testing purposes and if you'd actually want to play the game yourself you must buy and install it.

On Windows, in the Steam client there are dedicated server tools under the "tools" tab.
If you want to setup a true dedicated server i recommend you to read the following page:
