Server can't connect to Steam and I can't connect to the server!
#1
BASIC INFO
Server OS: Debian Lenny 32-Bit
Game(s): CS:S
Start Up Command: ./srcds_run -game cstrike -ip 173.236.95.197 -port 27015 -maxplayers 54 -tickrate 66 +fps_max 75 +map de_dust2 -autoupdate
Admin Mods: MetaMod, Mani-Admin, Event Scripts

---

It appears that all the CS:S servers running on my box get the error of:

Could not establish connection to Steam servers.

on start up.

And when it's up and running and I try to connect to the server, I get this error:

Disconnect: Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket.

What's the problem?

Also my servers don't appear to have VAC enabled on them when they start up even with -secure in the command line.

It's been awhile since i've troubleshooted, lemme see if I still have the touch for it.

First lemme ask a few questions,
Has the server worked before? or is this a first time run?
Is this server being ran on your network? or from a dedicated server?

If it's on your network, make sure all necessary are forwarded correctly to the IP you plan on running the server on. Also if this is from running your network, don't bind it to your external IP address, use the IP your router assigns.

If this is on a dedicated network, also make sure they allow the usage of game servers and aren't blocking them.

The server has worked before. I am running 1 TF2 server and 2 CS 1.6 servers at this time and they are all working. Just a couple hours ago, I was messing around with the configs dealing with Mani Admin on the CS:S server and all of a sudden all my CS:S server son the box stopped working.

The server is ran from a dedicated server on Single Hop's network.

The network allows game servers since I am running 3 other servers without problems.

I made a ticket to Single Hop in regards to this issue and I am waiting on them.

Ok, that gives me a bit more. Have you tried having someone else connect to the servers? The cannot connect to steam could be on your providers side or STEAMs side.

as for your other issue:
Disconnect: Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket. is normally a client issue that tends to happen and can be resolved by doing the following:

If you continue to receive this error message, the issue can most likely be resolved by restarting the Steam client.
If restarting Steam does not resolve the issue, please exit Steam and delete the following files from your Steam directory:
Steam.dll
SteamUI.dll
Rename the ClientRegistry.blob
The files should be found at C:\Program Files\Steam\ (the location on your machine will vary if you specified a different installation folder, or if you have moved your Steam installation).

Yes, I had about 10 other people try and the same thing happened to them.

It's only my servers and this has happened before in other threads (believe me I googled this for an entire hour) and they all had this problem. It's only the server, it's not the Steam client. My friends and I can play in every other server except for ours. Our server can't connect to Steam therefore we get the error, we just don't know how to fix it.
Update: VAC does work after a while, but the server still can't connect to Steam servers.

We started getting this yesterday (18th, at around 8pm EST).. so it has to be a steam thing.
Although, the rcon password was changed in our server.cfg, BUT i think this was just coincidence as we were hacked a few days ago, so maybe they came back and hacked it before this happened... so this is where i ask, did your rcon_password change?

Also yes our VAC symbol shows up after a while too.

Any luck so far?

Still no luck and no my RCON did not change.

EDIT: I got this working, I just removed the -ip and -port command from my start up line, but that still doesn't help since I'm running multiple servers on multiple IPs.

I found with my Debian 64bit server the following would allow me to reconnect to Steam.

1. Delete file /Steam/ClientRegistry.blob
2. Restart server

This doesn't always work the first time, and it doesn't always require a restart but almost always requires you to fully close steam. This is how I currently solve not establishing a connection to Steam.

I tried it, either way, I found out the error and everything is working fine now.

With this fix?

I don't believe its an actual fix. Unsure what's happening but it seems to work for some - and not for others. May be a temporary fix the same way deleting ClientRegistry.blob is. When I removed my IP and Port from the command line, it made no difference.
