[Advice] How many slots could run on this machine?
#1
I'm purchasing an IBM eServer xSeries 345 - Model 8670 and I'm wondering how many slots I could run on this. Specs:

Code:
Processor:
Type:      Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz
Amount:    2
Cache:     L2, 512kb per core
Hyper-Threading Technology

RAM:       1GB (8GB Max)

Storage:   3x 36,4GB Ultra320 SCSI

I was thinking on running the following:

Code:
CPU1:

18 Slots - Garrysmod Sandbox
12 Slots - Garrysmod GoFish

CPU2:

18 Slots - Garrysmod DarkRP
8 Slots  - Garrysmod Stranded

Thanks in advance!

We're going to need more information, what is the CPU?. I know it says xeon, but what family, etc. Is that two single core CPU's or one dual core?.

Either way due to the low cache on the CPU it won't be that great for physics.

Also what is the OS and what is the internet connection bandwidth and how much monthly transfer?.

I'm not sure what family it is, I do know it's a single core (hyper threading).

Too bad it isn't that great for physics. I could always drop the sandbox and take an extra RP or something... Fretta... I don't know...

Anyways, I'm planning on running Ubuntu on it, since it's the only version of Linux I've used before and since Windows gets me too many errors. (Running a 18 slot Sandbox of a machine now, grinding my gears with stealthy errors...).

My connection is a 30Mbps down, 3Mbps up. Unlimited transfer.

P.S.: Do you have any instant messaging accounts, or else Steam so we can discuss this faster?

Single core with hyper threading?. EWWWWWWWWW. Your looking at a 4-8 slot build (thats one server, dont get confused with per core) or 16-18 slot RP (again, one server.).

Use CPU-Z to get the family - we can give you better advice based on that. (use the validator and post the link to it here.)

Scratch that, 3Mbps up... your look at roughly 12-15 slots total, period. 25KB/s per person, 384KB/s (3Mbps) divided by 25KB/s is 15 slots.
*Sigh* the OP has gone offline without replying to me, apparently he didn't like what he heard.

Anyway I'm going to sleep now.

I didn't leave yet, I'll await your reply. If you read my post, it says that it will have 2 CPUs. Also, I didn't buy the system yet.

No I read your post, you said single core with hyperthreading = one CPU.
