So I recently switched from linux to windows and I've been pretty happy so far. The one thing that gets me is the inability to update srcds while it's running. In linux I could update the files and then simply restart the server. Now I have to shutdown srcds, run the updater (which can take a while with valve's servers), then restart the server. This extended downtime clears servers out like wildfire and isn't good.
Anyone have any tricks for faster updating? I've thought of keeping a dummy folder and updating that first, then shutting down srcds and drag/dropping the files over quickly.

Everyone has to do it.
There really is no faster way of doing it... Or at least not an easy way.

Well I know many of the server hosting companies have ways of batch updating the servers that leave little to no downtime. There must be a way.

Normally updating takes less than a minute...

I don't know what planet you're on, but when a TF2 update comes out it can take up to 10 minutes to download the update due to the strain on valve's servers. Most of the time it's just waiting to start downloading.

I don't believe there is any way around this with srcds...
I suppose you could create a clone of your server, update the clone, shut down servers, copy files from clone back over original and restart... But then again this method may also corrupt data files created by admin mods and such. ( Simply not cloning those files in the first place is the fix )
