Can't connect to steam server
#1
I'm fairly new to unbuntu and i have no idea how to resolve this issue. I was able to run my server in windows 7 just fine at 1000fps; however, because of the pingboost issue with windows, i have to start learning how to use unbuntu. Hopefully this and easy issue to fix.

System Specs:
Pentium 4 3.2ghz cpu
2gb ram

no mods
./hlds_run -console -game cstrike +map de_dust2 +port 1337 +maxplayers 16 -autoupdate -secure -pingboost 3

Auto detecting CPU
Using AMD Optimised binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Updating server using Steam.
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Base Content' version 35

Checking/Installing 'Linux Server Engine' version 54

Checking/Installing 'Half-Life Base Content' version 12

HLDS installation up to date

Console initialized.
scandir failed:/home/john/srcd/./platform/SAVE
Protocol version 48
Exe version 1.1.2.6/Stdio (cstrike)
Exe build: 16:56:04 Mar 8 2010 (4883)

Server IP address 127.0.1.1:1337
scandir failed:/home/john/srcd/./platform/SAVE
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient. Continuing with current version anyway.

couldn't exec listip.cfg
couldn't exec banned.cfg

[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient. Continuing with current version anyway.

Could not establish connection to Steam servers.
Reconnected to Steam servers.
VAC secure mode is activated.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

heya,

try adding your external ip of the machine to the startup command:
./hlds_run -console -game cstrike +map de_dust2 +port 1337 +maxplayers 16 -autoupdate -secure -pingboost 3 +ip ADDRESS

hope thats what you were lookin for Wink

It's a permission thing ... change mod ( chmod 777 <dirs and files> )

WARNING: UDP_OpenSocket: port: 1337 bind: Cannot assign requested address
FATAL ERROR (shutting down): Couldn't allocate dedicated server IP port 1337.

My port 1337 is forwarded. I've also tried to change the permission by using this command:
sudo chmod 777

I also noticed that this directory didnt exist /home/john/srcd/./platform/SAVE.

Am I suppose to have that folder? Thanks for the input so far.
update, okay after playing around with my IP settings, i got it to work. I'm not added to the master list, but that's another story.

Turns out i had to use my internal ip address for it to work.

OK guys if all the other things didn't work. I found out a way to fix it: You will need to reset you router there should be a little hole on the back get a toothpick of something and poke it for about 10 secs and let go and it should work.
Here a video on how to reset it:
