Stabilizing FPS in Server 08 R2
#1
Hi,
I'm having trouble obtaining stable FPS. Here's my setup:

Quad Core Kentsfield @ 2.4GHz, 8 GB RAM, Windows Server 2008 R2. Before you ask, I'm running srcdsfpsboost and HPET is enabled. Eventually I want to get stable 1000 FPS but my more immediate concern is getting stable FPS at 500 and even 250.

The problem isn't that bad but it goes from say 200 to 270 a lot. It gets a bit worse when you move up to 500. I'd like to have it stay as fixed as possible.

I'd appreciate any help with this and thanks in advance!

It appears that you have a good box and you are running a fpsboosting app. So that is good, but have you actually set the fps using the fps_max command.

In your startup line or server.cfg, add fps_max 600, for 500 FPS. Fps_max 300 for around 250 FPS. And Lastly, for 1000 Fps fps_max 0 is used.

Fps_max 0 forces the engine to run the highest fps possible. We currently run a box on windows 2008 and fps_max 0 is required for 1000 FPS. So far 1000 FPS seems to be the highest windows 2008 can handle. Although, I could be wrong, it may be possible to achieve higher values.

I usually find that running rcon stats via inside the server shows an accurate reading of the fps. If you do it via the console on the box, you never get stable fps.

Regards,

Alex

Yeah, I'm using proper command lines - +fps_max 600 for 500 fps, and +fps_max 300 for 250. Setting it to 0 does allow it to reach 1000 but again, we encounter the same problem of fps fluctuation though it's even worse than lower fps configs.

Ah, sorry I misinterpreted what was said. Anyways, what type of game are you trying to achieve these settings at? And how many servers are currently running on the box?

TF2 mostly, and right now there are 10 servers running. CPU usage is very low though and I can turn every server off but one and still have the same effect.
