Hi, I´ve got an offer to buy a pretty cheap server and I just wonder how many slots u guys think it could handle with a perfect configruation, here you have the important speccs:

PowerEdge 1950 Rack Server

CPU Quad-Core 2,33 GHz 2x4MB Cache
Memory 2GB

I could always get more memory if it´s needed, the main thing i´m thinking about is how much the cpu could handle...

I can get this one for about 500-550$, is it worth it?

PLZ help! Smile

That is not a good buy... I can get you a Q8300 (2.5GHz) + 4GB RAM and 320GB HDfor $400

If you're not from the USA, I suppose it would be a better deal then.

As you can read:

he wants just a oppinion on how much maybe possible to host! He was not asking for a 100% correct value!

I would say per CPU you can host atleast >= 32 slots! This would be 4 x 32 = 128slots with 100 Tick!

But your memory isnt enough!

I doubt that it would hold 32slots Toungue Approximately 26slots...

And "BehaartesEtwas", I tried to search but didn´t find what I was looking for, and I know also that it´s hard to tell exactly as "mischlig" said...

And BTW, I`m going to host something like 8, 12, 16 and 24.. Smile

If I'm right its a E54xx based quad core correct?

If so you should be able to hold well over 24 slots per core, all 100tick 500fps on w2k8. Ram is at your limit though.

On a curious note, isn't that rack a dual socket?

it's always a question of the quality goal. also the number of servers is important. so virtually any answer the does not exceed RAM is somewhat correct... I wouldn't run more than 6 servers on that machine, even if they have only 8 slots each!

Please do not PM me for server related help
