Game Hosting Instructions
#1
Hi there. Some friends of mine want to start a small Game-Hosting company. The internet speed is good, also good peering. Here are the details:

Hardware:
-2 x IntelXeon Quad Core X5550 2.66 Ghz ,8 Mb ,Socket 1366 ,Box
-HDD 3 x Fujitsu MBA3300RC 300 Gb / 15000 rpm / 16 Mb
-RAM Kingston 24 Gb (6 x 4 Gb) DDR3 1066 Mhz ECC

Software:
-CentOS
-standard CentOS kernel (250 hz)

Questions:
-how many servers can we host (hlds & srcds) ?
-how many servers/core can we manage ?
-is it indicated ,let's say, to bind a hlds and srcds server on 1 core ?
-if we compile a new RT Kernel at 1000 Hz,how will this affect our servers ? (because we want to find a way to force HLDS servers tu run at 500 fps and SRCDS servers to run at 1000 fps -on the RT 1000 Hz kernel-)
-could you recommand a good game panel (we have gcp but we are not very pleased ...)
-currently we are running 18 servers (hlds and srcds) ... is this too much ? because linux shows 0.80 CPU load on all the 8 cores ...
-any other suggestions are welcomed

Thank you.

Don't use this panel... The project is dead and from what I read and herd that is also exploitable.
Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

I can confirm this, XCTR was taken down through XSS/Shelling a few months ago thanks to Swift.

> try it out. It depends on every server and game

> for hlds it does make sense, but not for srcds. but if you dont know what you do you should use the taskset for all cpus

> With RT you need hres, with hres you will get 1000 fps at srcds ansame with hlds.

-could you recommand a good game panel (we have gcp but we are not very pleased ...)
> clan-point.de its the best (costs), if you want somethink which is good you have to pay.

-currently we are running 18 servers (hlds and srcds) ... is this too much ? because linux shows 0.80 CPU load on all the 8 cores ...
> not even the load is important, CPU, RAM also your CPU load should not go over 40-50% of each core, you will get bad results at the fps of each gs

-any other suggestions are welcomed
> every company have to find out the best way for itselfs. on your way you should build up friendlyships with other companys, which can very helpfull.
